All About That Bass

Butt Augmentation | Houston TXIf you’re old enough, you may remember the days when thin, a.k.a. borderline anorexic, was in on the covers of all the beauty magazines. Shapeless, emaciated models were all the rage, leaving the normal women of the world wondering how they could ever keep up with that ideal…and eat something more than a rice cake or two a day.

Fortunately, a healthy dose of reality has hit the fashion world with women of all sizes, shapes, and colors now celebrated. In line with that thinking is a real movement to boost the bass, so to speak. In other words, women are having their backsides augmented.

It was as if Sir Mix-a-lot’s popular song Baby’s Got Back from 1992 needed to wait until 2016 because it could be an anthem for today. If you don’t agree, see how long you can go without seeing the round backsides of Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, and company.

If you’d like a rounder derriere, Dr. Altamira performs buttock augmentation through the Brazilian Butt Lift or buttock implants.

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift and how is it different from butt augmentation?

A Brazilian Butt Lift is a form of butt augmentation, but it differs dramatically from augmentation with implants. In a Brazilian Butt Lift, a patient’s own fat is used for the augmentation. In implant augmentation, implants are surgically placed. In implant augmentation, the results are permanent, but sometimes implants can move and require revision surgery. The consensus seems to be that Brazilian Butt Lift augmentation delivers more natural looking results. One downside with the Brazilian method, however, is that the patient’s body absorbs some of the injected fat, with patients retaining from 60 to 80 percent of the re-injected fat. Dr. Altamira performs both procedures, depending on the situation and preferences of his patients.

How is a Brazilian Butt Lift performed?

A Brazilian Butt Lift begins with liposuction, a secondary benefit of the procedure. Fat is harvested from an unwanted area (most popular areas are the lower back, waist, flanks, thighs, and stomach) through liposuction. Small incisions are made. Local anesthesia is infused first, and then a thin cannula is inserted and moved back and forth to loosen the fat pockets in the area. The cannula then suctions out the fat. Up to three times the amount of fat that will be re-injected may be harvested. By removing fat, it not only provides the raw material for the buttock enhancement, but it also contours the areas around the butt for a more dramatic result.

Next, the fat, tissue, and blood that were suctioned out are processed to separate the fat. Dr. Altamira then re-injects the fat back into the buttocks through hundreds of tiny injections all over your buttocks. He pays particular attention to the upper buttocks, so the entire area looks youthfully lifted.

How are implants placed?

Dr. Altamira usually makes incisions for buttock implants just below the tailbone in the crease between the buttocks. After the incision or incisions are made, a silicone implant is inserted in each buttock within or above the gluteal muscles. The implants are sutured into place and the incisions are closed.

How long do results take?

Results are immediately visible with both methods. But the Brazilian Butt Lift takes several months to fully realize the results because the fat needs time to be completely absorbed and settled. In implant augmentation, swelling can last for up to three months before fully passing. By that time, the implants usually will also have settled into their final position.
