3 Things to Know About Rhinoplasty

RhinoplastyAs one of the most common facial reconstructive surgeries, rhinoplasty is the process of reshaping the nose in order to make it look smaller, fix a deviated septum, reshape the nose, or simply make the nostrils larger or bigger. If you’re considering getting rhinoplasty, here are a few things to know about the procedure and recovery.

1. Is the procedure painful?

During the entire procedure, you are under anesthesia and will not feel a thing. However, once you are in recovery and the anesthesia starts to wear off, you may start to feel some pain around their nose, forehead, and even eyes. Doctors will typically give patients some pain medication to help ease any pain or discomfort during the first few days of healing.

2. What is recovery like?

Recovering from rhinoplasty involves some rest, care, and attention. By allowing your body to rest for a day or two after surgery, you can give your body the extra support needed to speed on through recovery and get back to normal. Your doctor will give you detailed instructions on the proper care of your nose during the first few weeks you are home, including avoiding any contact sports or removing the stent that will be placed in your nose to maintain the shape. Although you will start to feel like your normal self after just a week or two, it can take the upwards of a year to fully see the results.

3. What if I’m not happy with the results?

Many patients fear that they will not be happy with their results. However, we know that all of our patients will be 100% satisfied with their rhinoplasty results because we have been doing this for so long. It’s safe to say that once you remove the bandages around your nose, you might not see the results you intended because your nose will likely be inflamed for at least a few weeks. During the healing time, it’s important to remember that once the swelling goes down, you will start to see the real results that will make you smile.

Getting rhinoplasty done doesn’t have to be a scary ordeal. In fact, as a fairly routine procedure for our doctors, we know that you will leave the chair feeling satisfied and happy.
