Frequently Asked Questions

Am I A Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

You may be a candidate for dermal fillers if you are in overall good health and are not allergic to the ingredients that your filler contains. During your consultation, board-certified Dr. David Altamira will consider your medical history to determine if any allergies may prevent you from becoming eligible for dermal filler treatment.

Ideal candidates will:

  • Be non-smokers
  • Have a realistic expectation regarding their results
  • Be committed to proper aftercare for their skin and treated areas
  • Have wrinkles, fine lines, or loss of volume in their face

Are There Any Risks with Dermal Fillers?

Just like any other injectable treatment, dermal fillers still come with a few risks patients should be aware of. These risks can include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Bruising
  • Infection
  • Allergic reaction to filler ingredients
  • Filler migration
  • Severe swelling
  • Skin discoloration
  • Unsatisfactory results

While common side effects such as redness or swelling can disappear within two weeks after treatment, patients can expect that these risks are typically avoided under Dr. Altamira’s care.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

While dermal filler treatment is temporary, it can provide long-lasting results, depending on the type of filler that is used to treat your skin concerns. On average, most dermal fillers can provide results that last anywhere between one month to five years. The RHA collection of dermal fillers, for example, can last between 12 to 18 months long. Most patients plan ahead to schedule follow-up dermal filler treatments to maintain their desired looks.

What Is Recovery Like After Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers do not require a significant amount of downtime, and most patients can return to their everyday activities on the same day. However, you can expect to experience swelling and bruising after your treatment, both of which can be treated with a cold compress. These side effects should disappear on their own after about five days.

During recovery, patients should avoid the following:

  • Strenuous physical activity
  • Prolonged sun exposure without sunscreen, especially if you were treated on the face
  • Touching the treated area for the first three days

Dr. Altamira will provide each patient with aftercare guidelines to help you complete a successful recovery from dermal filler treatment and achieve the best results!
