What is ThermiVa™?

ThermiVa™ is an in-office, non-surgical procedure for skin tightening, used for dermatologic conditions. A radiofrequency generator, made by Thermi Aesthetics powers an “S” shaped handpiece that tightens external and internal vulvovaginal tissue. The tip has gentle curves that provide comfort.

Who is a candidate for vaginal tightening treatment?

As we get older, our bodies change, and this can impact our sex lives. If you feel as if you have lost some sensation during sex, if you feel as if you have less natural lubrication than you used to, and if you have occasional episodes of urinary incontinence, ThermiVa™ could be an excellent procedure for you. A side benefit of radiofrequency energy is that it tightens and firms the labia.

How Does ThermiVa™ Work?

ThermiVa delivers controlled thermal energy to the desired areas – external (labia) and/or internal (vaginal). Applying heat to tissue has become the standard for promoting collagen remodeling, which helps strengthen the structural support columns and improve the integrity of the skin. ThermiVa encourages new, tighter collagen production and improved coordination of muscle activity and strength.

ThermiVa™ Benefits

  • Vaginal (internal) Tightening: tightens the vagina at the opening and the full length of the vagina reducing laxity.
  • Vulvar/Labial (external) Tightening: ThermiVa will tighten the external labial tissues and reduce sag or “camel toes.”
  • Decreased Dryness adds softer and thicker skin and more moisture both internally and externally.
  • Reduced Incontinence or Leakage Accidents: Patients experience reduced accidents and leakage and even urge symptoms after treatment with ThermiVa.
  • Increased Sexual Satisfaction: Patients can expect increased vaginal sensitivity, more coordinated and stronger muscular contractions.

What is involved in a ThermiVa procedure?

A small s-shaped wand applicator is used to deliver the radiofrequency energy both to the interior walls of the vagina and to the external labia and other tissues. When the RF energy converts to heat, the feeling is similar to a “hot” massage. The procedure takes just 30 minutes. It is non-invasive and there isn’t any downtime. Once delivered, the radiofrequency energy immediately begins tightening the interior and exterior tissues.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my ThermiVa appointment?

You need to be clear of any STDs and you can’t have your menstrual cycle at the time, but those are the only true requirements for ThermiVa. Don’t have a waxing session for 5-7 days prior to your ThermiVa™ session. It’s helpful to trim any hair surrounding your vagina and labia. Take a shower the morning of your treatment and thoroughly wash and rinse the area. These are completely non-invasive, comfortable treatments performed at our two locations in Houston and Sugar Land.

How Long Is The ThermiVa™ Procedure?

The complete ThermiVa procedure includes 3 separate treatments over a period of 3 months. There is no downtime and anesthetics is not a requirement for this procedure. Patients are comfortable, relaxed, and very pleased with the noticeable results.

How long before I will realize my results with ThermiVa? How long will they last?

ThermiVa™ sessions last around 30 minutes. Dr. Altamira recommends three sessions over the course of three months. Results are immediate and continue to improve over the next three or four months after each appointment. ThermiVa™ results last about a year, but if you have a “touch-up” at one year, those results can expand for up to three years.

How soon after giving birth can I have ThermiVa?

Dr. Altamira recommends waiting for at least six weeks after delivery to have ThermiVa™.

Are there side effects of a ThermiVa treatment?

You may have heard of problems with skin damage due to laser vaginal rejuvenation treatments. ThermiVa™ isn’t a laser treatment. ThermiVa™ uses radiofrequency energy to strengthen the tissues and trigger new collagen production. Radio waves are all around us all the time. They are simply not concentrated as in a ThermiVa™ procedure. The only reactions to RF treatments are usually very mild swelling on the treated skin, redness, and some sensitivity, but these issues pass quickly. Otherwise, patients have no downtime and can return to their normal activities immediately.

Is a Vaginal Tightening painful?

Patient comfort was involved with every step of the development of ThermiVa™. The ThermiVa™ handpiece was designed with comfort in mind. The width of the active tip that delivers the radiofrequency energy is just 0.5 inches. Its shape is patterned after the natural curvature of the vaginal walls. Warm ultrasound gel is used during treatment. When the RF energy is delivered patients feel gentle warming in the vagina, but the sensation is not painful.

Is ThermiVa treatment covered by insurance?

These are considered to be elective procedures by insurance companies, so they are not covered. However, we do offer CareCredit should you wish to finance your treatments.
