Are you considering a breast reduction?

With all of the focus on breast augmentation and breast lifts, it often gets overlooked that women with large breasts may want a change, too! Large, heavy breasts can be physically uncomfortable and can cause you mental trauma as well. A breast reduction can help.

How can a breast reduction help?

Having large breasts may be taking a toll on your health and you may not even realize it. You may have back, shoulder, and neck pain and not even think that this could be caused by large breasts. Large breasts can also cause poor posture, which can make back pain worse. You may have numbness or pain in the arms and hands, and you may have a constant rash or skin irritation underneath the breasts.

Emotionally, large breasts can make you feel embarrassed or self-conscious. It can be frustrating to find clothes that fit you properly. And, it may be hard to find an exercise you can do without a lot of discomfort because of large breasts.

What happens during a breast reduction?

In a breast reduction, excess fat, skin, and tissue are removed. Breast size is reduced while lifting breasts and keeping them symmetrical and in proper proportion, and the surgery is performed in a way that minimizes any scarring. It improves posture, helps the body to achieve balance, and reduces the stress on the back muscles.

For a breast reduction procedure, you should be in good health and a nonsmoker. If you are planning on losing a lot of weight, your doctor may recommend that you lose the weight first before considering breast reduction.

Women who have had breast reduction surgery will feel more comfortable, less self-conscious, and may have more energy to pursue activities that they couldn’t enjoy before. Men with breasts that are too large (gynecomastia) can also have this procedure.
