FAQs About Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “Nose Job”, is a surgery that many people get to alter the shape of their nose. Whether it be for aesthetic purposes or functional purposes, it’s good to know what to expect if you are considering getting a rhinoplasty. In this blog, we will answer some FAQs (frequently asked questions) about rhinoplasty. So that you can feel confident when you go in to have your procedure done.

What Are the Different Types of Rhinoplasty?

This procedure can be performed in two different ways:

  • Closed Rhinoplasty: In this method, incisions are made in the interior of the nose. This is beneficial because it leaves no visible scarring behind. This is more common for minor rhinoplasty surgeries that require less reshaping.
  • Open Rhinoplasty: This is more common for procedures that require more structural changes within the nose. In this method, an incision is made on the skin between the nostrils (columella) to get a better view of the bones that make up the nose.

What Can I Expect During and After the Procedure?

Usually, general anesthesia is used during the procedure to ensure comfortability and that the patient experiences no pain. Sometimes local anesthesia is used instead, but this is entirely dependent on many factors including the doctor and the magnitude of changes.

After the procedure, you will experience some swelling and bruising. Your nose will be in a splint or bandage to protect the surgical site. Typically, you should be able to resume normal daily activities within a week or two.

How Long Does it Take to See Results?

Swelling and bruising tend to go away after a few weeks. As these symptoms subside, the results of your procedure will become more apparent.
