What is Morpheus8?
Morpheus8 combines microneedling and radiofrequency energy. In a microneedling procedure, tiny needles are used to puncture the skin, which creates tiny “micro-injuries.” These little skin injuries can do a lot, though. They stimulate the skin’s healing process and new skin cells are created. Collagen and elastin, which are important for healthy skin, are also stimulated to grow. This procedure is very popular – but with Morpheus8 it is even more effective.
The addition of radiofrequency means that the skin can be “wounded” at even deeper levels, which means the skin is healed (and starts regrowing) at an even deeper layer. Morpheus8 can be used to treat acne and acne scars, sun damaged skin, sagging skin, large pores, fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, and irregular skin texture and tone.
Most patients need from 1 to 4 Morpheus8 treatments, which should be spaced 3 to 5 weeks apart. It will take time to see results, as the collagen renews and the skin begins to renew itself. These results are permanent, although you may need an occasional touch up.
Each treatment typically takes about an hour or less, which includes the time it takes for a topical anesthetic to start working. Patients report that it doesn’t hurt; the skin just feels hot. After the treatment you may notice some redness, swelling, and bruising, which can be helped with over-the-counter pain medication. You can get right back into your normal activities as soon as the procedure is over, although you should avoid the sun for a couple of weeks afterwards, and make sure to wear sunscreen when you do go outside.
