The Botox Brow Lift: Is It Right for You?
- Posted on: Jul 30 2021
Botox was developed as an injectable wrinkle-reducer. Over its few decades of use, it has become known as a powerful anti-aging treatment. In addition to turning to Botox for frown lines, crow’s feet, and other dynamic wrinkles, we also utilize this FDA-approved drug to lift a descending brow. Here, we discuss what the Botox Brow Lift involves and how it may compare to surgery.
What Is a BOTOX Brow Lift?
Botox Cosmetic reduces wrinkles by affecting muscle movement. It does not freeze muscles, as was once believed. However, when the mild neuromodulator absorbs into muscle tissue, it does reduce its movements. This is a great thing for the skin! When we inject Botox into a tight, tensed forehead muscle just above the sagging brow, the downward pull on this part of the face relaxes. The brow is able to naturally elevate to its normal position.
How Does a BOTOX Brow Lift Compare to a Surgical Brow Lift?
Getting a Botox Brow Lift is a far cry from getting a surgical brow lift. Injections don’t require anesthesia. Patients tolerate their Botox injections nicely even without a topical numbing cream. The process takes less than 30 minutes, and there is no downtime. That said, results from a Botox Brow Lift typically fade away within 6 months. Patients may repeat treatment as often as every 3 months to maintain their youthful appearance.
A surgical brow lift is an outpatient procedure performed with general or twilight anesthesia. Patients may be at the surgical center for a few hours before they are sent home to begin their recovery period. Bruising and swelling are expected side effects of a brow lift. Patients may take prescription painkillers for a few days, as well. In 10 to 14 days, recovery is typically far enough along for patients to return to work and other light activities. The primary benefit of this option is that, once done, the lift usually is never repeated. The eyes always look younger than they would otherwise, even with the inevitable aging that occurs.
