So Many Ways to Tighten Up

Facelift Houston TX | David Altamira, MDWe used to talk about age-related concerns such as wrinkles and hair loss. Now we know that one of the primary problems that affect the face, and the body, is the loss of firmness in the superficial structures beneath the skin. Every part of the body is susceptible to the effects of weight loss and collagen loss, which makes laxity a prime concern that may need to be addressed at some point.

In recent years, we have witnessed a windfall that has changed the face of aesthetic medicine. From med-spas to dermatology and plastic surgery offices, patients are seeing new services that promise to tighten sagging skin without so much as a single incision. We’re all for conservative means. However, we remain committed to the best possible outcome, and this often means surgical lifting.

Where Surgical Lifts May be Performed

The facelift procedure is the most commonly known of all surgical lifts. This procedure has long been sought by men and women who want to refresh their facial aesthetic by tightening skin and underlying, superficial muscle that has lost its grip on its foundational bone structure. Aside from facelift surgery, patients are also seeking:

  • Neck lift. Over the past several years, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of men obtaining neck lift surgery. This procedure defines the angles of the jaw line by removing accumulated fat (double chin) and skin from beneath the chin.
  • Arm lift. The tissue that extends from the elbow to the armpit along the back of the arm can become loose and saggy with age or as a result of substantial weight loss. Arm lift surgery, or brachioplasty, can be performed to restore a slimmer, more toned appearance.
  • Breast lift. Breasts that sag do not necessarily need to be enlarged, they just need to be lifted, so tissue sits higher on the chest wall. Mastopexy may be an excellent solution for women who have lost weight or whose breasts have lost their profile as a result of motherhood and aging.
  • Thigh lift. Even if the intended goal is not to create the coveted thigh-gap, this surgery can slim and refine the inner and outer thighs to create more balanced proportions. Thigh lift surgery may be performed alone or in combination with liposuction.
